Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere with 80% of the population living in dire poverty. Along with this, the earthquake has left many homeless and for every 10,000 citizens there is just one practicing physicians!
Out of the ashes of this sorrow, these people have found a way to handcraft these unique items, which provide for their families! To create this art they cut open 55-gallon drums, hammer them flat, and then mark designs on the black metal with chalk. Using a hammer and chisel, they pound and cut through the metal to make amazing designs.
